Lokomotiv Moscow train targeted by drone attacks in Russia

The Lokomotiv Moscow football team, including Mexican defender César Montes, was traveling by train when drone attacks struck the Voronezh region of Russia during the early hours of Monday. The convoy was returning to Moscow following a match against Rostov.

While the drone offensive, attributed to Ukrainian operations, caused damage to the railway infrastructure and nearby areas, reports indicate the specific carriage carrying the players and coaching staff was not directly hit. The team's medical staff provided immediate assistance to injured passengers in other carriages before the club arranged for the delegation to complete their journey to Moscow via bus.

Local authorities in Voronezh reported that the overnight drone strikes resulted in three deaths and 39 injuries. Regional Governor Aleksandr Gusev stated that air defenses intercepted 113 drones in the area. Lokomotiv Moscow confirmed in a statement that all players and staff have arrived safely at their training center and have resumed preparations for upcoming cup and league matches.
