Lola T616 Le Mans winner to be auctioned in Monterey

A rare Lola T616 race car, notable for its historic performance at the 1984 24 Hours of Le Mans, is heading to auction during Monterey Car Week 2026. The vehicle features a 1.3-liter Mazda rotary engine producing approximately 300 hp and is equipped with a five-speed Hewland gearbox.

The car is historically significant due to its use of BFGoodrich Comp T/A radial tires derived from road models, a strategic move by the tire manufacturer to prove product quality. During the 1984 Le Mans race, the Lola T616 chassis HU-2 won the C2 class and finished 10th overall, while a second T616 chassis finished third in the same class.

Mecum Auctions will offer the vehicle with an estimated price range between $200,000 and $320,000. The car features an aluminum honeycomb monocoque chassis and was part of a limited production run of only four units.
