Lomé Airport modernization involves private sector partnership

The Société Aéroportuaire de Lomé-Tokoin (SALT) is initiating a modernization project for the duty-free shops at Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport (AIGE) in Lomé, Togo. The initiative aims to upgrade commercial spaces to meet international standards, diversify offerings, and improve the overall passenger experience to maintain competitiveness as a regional hub.

The move follows a period of institutional challenges, including a sanitary crisis in the boarding hall that highlighted deficiencies in the previous public management system. To address these issues and restore international confidence, management is transitioning toward private sector involvement. Lagardère Travel Retail has emerged as a key strategic partner to modernize duty-free areas, enhance sanitary standards, and improve passenger flow.

SALT has emphasized a commitment to dialogue with current commercial operators to manage the transition and address concerns regarding the organizational changes required by the modernization process.
