Lomé hosts inaugural speech therapy professional meetings

Lomé hosted the first ‘Rencontres de la pratique orthophonique’ from August 13 to 15, 2026, marking 20 years of speech therapy practice in Togo. The event brought together professionals from Togo and several other African nations to assess the current state and future challenges of the field.

Dr. Kokou Marin Wotobé, representing the Ministry of Health, emphasized that speech therapy is vital for health and social inclusion, addressing language, communication, speech, voice, and swallowing disorders. Fayçal Hamzah, president of the Association des professionnels orthophonistes du Togo (ASPOT), noted that while the profession has gained visibility through advocacy, there is a continued need for better recognition and improved accessibility.
