Lomas de Zamora residents hold events and protests regarding elderly welfare
In Lomas de Zamora, Argentina, local elderly residents and retirees have engaged in both community celebrations and political demonstrations.
Members of various senior groups, including Juntos a la Par and Verano Eterno, gathered at the Club Deportivo to celebrate International Day of Older Persons. The event, relocated due to heavy rain, featured folklore and tango workshops, a dance competition, and musical performances by Leo Etcheto. Local officials, including Mayor Javier Gastón, attended the festivities.
In a separate movement, a large group of retirees gathered at Plaza Grigera to protest against national economic policies. Demonstrators expressed concerns over the loss of purchasing power regarding pensions and significant cuts to healthcare services. The protest highlighted issues such as insufficient pension increases and a lack of medical coverage caused by ongoing strikes by healthcare professionals over unpaid fees.
