Lombardy officials visit hydrogen production plant in Edolo
Lombardy officials, including President Attilio Fontana, recently visited the hydrogen production and distribution plant in Edolo. This facility is part of the H2iseO project, developed by Ferrovienord as part of the Fnm Group.
The project utilizes PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funding, with 97.2 million euros allocated toward these plants and the hydrogen refueling station in Rovato. The Edolo plant produces hydrogen through electrolysis using renewable electricity, which is then stored and distributed via high-pressure dispensers.
Dynamic testing of hydrogen-powered trains is currently underway on the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo line. Following these acceptance tests and a period of experimental service, commercial operations for the hydrogen trains are scheduled to begin in 2027.
