Lombardy allocates €400,000 for Vittoriale degli Italiani restoration
The Lombardy region has committed €400,000 to fund restoration efforts at the Vittoriale degli Italiani monument complex in Gardone Riviera. The funding, announced by regional culture councillor Francesca Caruso, is intended to repair damage caused by a severe storm on July 17, 2026, which impacted the Lake Garda region.
The financial package will be distributed across two fiscal years, with €100,000 allocated for 2026 and €300,000 for 2027. The restoration projects will focus on three specific areas: the private gardens of the Prioria, structural repairs to the facades of Villa Mirabella, and technological upgrades within the Prioria house museum, which was the home of author Gabriele d’Annunzio.
While the regional government is providing these funds, the Vittoriale Foundation has estimated total damages from the July storm to be in excess of €5 million. The funding aims to safeguard the historic estate and its cultural heritage following the violent weather event.
