Lombardy approves new laws to protect regional culinary and cultural traditions
The Lombardy Regional Council has approved new legislation aimed at protecting and promoting the region's culinary heritage. The law introduces official recognition for “Cucina tipica lombarda,” which will include a dedicated regional logo and a formal registry. To boost economic and tourism value, the measure also establishes a “Month of typical Lombard cuisine” to support the entire supply chain, including farmers, livestock breeders, and restaurateurs.
In a separate cultural initiative, the regional government has approved over 222,000 euros in funding to support traditional and live nativity scenes (presepi viventi). This experimental implementation of regional law provides non-repayable grants of up to 20,000 euros per beneficiary, covering up to 80% of project costs. The funding aims to preserve local religious and historical traditions through community-led artistic displays.
