Lombardy approves new regional mobility and transport plan through 2032
The Lombardy Regional Council has approved an updated Regional Program for Mobility and Transport (PRMT), establishing a strategic framework for infrastructure and services through 2032. The plan aims to enhance regional connectivity, promote sustainability, and integrate various modes of transport, including trains, buses, metros, and trams.
Key infrastructure projects confirmed in the plan include the doubling of the Codogno-Cremona-Mantova line, the Rho-Gallarate strengthening, and the quadrupling of the Milano-Pavia line. The program also prioritizes the development of cycling networks, targeting approximately 570 kilometers of urban/metropolitan cycle paths and 1,250 kilometers of tourist cycle paths.
To improve accessibility, the region plans to extend fare concessions—currently used in the Milan and Monza areas—to the rest of the territory. These measures include free transport for children under 14, a 25% discount on monthly and annual subscriptions for those under 26 and over 65, and an 85% reduction for individuals with an ISEE below 6,000 euros. The strategy also emphasizes digital integration to allow seamless travel across different transport systems.
