Lombardy authorities coordinate medical repatriations from Greece and Albania
Lombardy regional health authorities, coordinated by Areu, have successfully organized the medical repatriation of two citizens from abroad to ensure continued care in Italian hospitals.
A 52-year-old woman from the province of Lecco was repatriated from the Greek island of Skiathos after suffering a severe head trauma from an accidental fall. Following her initial hospitalization in Larissa, medical professionals issued a ‘fit to fly’ clearance once her condition stabilized. She arrived via Montichiari airport and was transferred to San Gerardo Hospital in Monza.
Additionally, an 83-year-old resident of Vigevano was transferred from Tirana, Albania, after being treated in intensive care for respiratory failure. The patient was admitted to the Voghera hospital under the care of Asst Pavia.
Regional Welfare Assessor Guido Bertolaso stated that these operations demonstrate the ability of the Lombardy Region to intervene and support citizens even when they are outside of Italian territory.
