Lombardy data center committees form to protest expansion

A regional network of committees opposing the construction of data centers was officially formed in Milan on September 26. The group plans to hold a demonstration in Milan on October 10.

In Pavia, a public meeting is scheduled for October 6 at the Broletto conference hall to discuss the impact of these facilities. Experts, including environmentalist Enrico Duranti and physicist Sergio Manera, will address concerns such as the heat island effect and the rapid expansion of data center projects in the Lombardy region.

Specific projects under scrutiny include the Stack campus expansion in Siziano, the Microsoft site in Bornasco, and developments in Certosa and Garlasco. In Pavia, recent reports indicate a significant increase in power grid connection requests from Terna for a site at the former Chatillon area, rising from 50 MW to 150 MW. Local authorities have stated they will not authorize such developments.
