Lombardy launches self-defense initiatives for women
Various self-defense initiatives for women are being launched in the Lombardy region of Italy.
In Como, instructor Corrado Vella will lead a free five-session course starting October 13, 2026. The program, held at via Giovio 14, aims to provide practical tools for personal safety, self-esteem, and mental preparation to handle potential aggression. Vella, founder of the Street Survival School, will teach techniques including Jeet Kune Do and Kali.
Additionally, the Lombardy Region has introduced the 'Io non sto ferma: impara a difenderti' project in collaboration with the Italian Federation of Judo, Wrestling, Karate, and Martial Arts (Fijlkam). To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, an 'open week' will take place from November 23 to 28, 2026. During this period, women can attend free lessons in disciplines such as judo, karate, wrestling, and the Fijlkam Global Self-Defense Method (Mga) at affiliated gyms across the region.
