Lombardy officials protest proposed healthcare budget cuts

Lombardy regional officials have expressed concern regarding proposed healthcare budget cuts in the upcoming financial maneuver. Welfare Assessor Guido Bertolaso stated that the cuts are “really unsustainable” for all regions, estimating an impact of nearly 500 million euros for Lombardy alone.

Bertolaso warned that these reductions could hinder efforts to reduce waiting lists, prevent the full operation of community houses and hospitals, and limit incentives for healthcare personnel to work in the public sector. Regional Governor Attilio Fontana expressed concern but indicated hope for additional resources through parliamentary debate.

The regional administration is pursuing a dual strategy: preparing to manage the current budget figures while simultaneously lobbying for improvements to ensure long-term programming through 2027.
