Regional security and civil protection assessor Romano La Russa met with representatives of the provincial capitals of Lombardy in Milan to present a formal request for experimental access to the SDI (Sistema di Indagine Interforze) database for the city‑wide police forces. The request, to be signed by La Russa and sent to the national government, also asks for an update of regional regulation n. 5/2019 on self‑defence tools (spray, extendable batons, body‑cams), a stable increase in regional funding for equipment and personnel, and the establishment of a dedicated table on pension and economic recognition for local police officers.

A similar press conference in Varese, chaired by local security assessor Raffaele Catalano, brought together mayors and security officials from Varese, Brescia, Bergamo, Milano, Como, Cremona, Lodi, Mantova, Monza and Pavia. The Varese group reiterated the same five demands: SDI database access, regulation updates on self‑defence tools, guaranteed funding, a national‑level discussion on street‑tutor legislation, and improved training programmes for local police. Both meetings underscore a coordinated push by Lombardy’s municipalities for stronger legal and operational tools for their police forces.
