Italy launches breast cancer prevention initiatives for Pinktober
Various Italian organizations and regional authorities are conducting breast cancer awareness and prevention initiatives during October.
In Lombardy, regional health data shows a mammography screening adherence rate of 60.5% for women aged 50-69 during the 2024-2025 biennium, exceeding the national standard of 60%. To support this, the regional government is coordinating open days and utilizing mobile units, including a Salute Donna Onlus camper in Milan, to facilitate access to screenings.
Other initiatives include the 27th edition of Pinktober at Hard Rock Cafe locations in Florence, Rome, and Venice, which supports Lilt through live music and merchandise sales. In Milan, the “Sorrisi in Rosa” project celebrated 10 years of supporting patients through the Humanitas hospital network. Localized efforts are also reported in Canistro, involving medical consultations and community walks, and in Lavena Ponte Tresa, where the Bcc di Busto Garolfo e Buguggiate is providing free oncological skin screenings.
