Lombardy regional councilor criticizes feline stray monitoring
Regional Councilor Paola Pizzighini of the Movimento 5 Stelle has criticized the Lombardy regional government for failures in monitoring feline stray colonies. According to data cited by Pizzighini, census rates for colonies in provinces such as Monza e Brianza, Lecco, Como, and Pavia have remained near or below 1% over the last year.
Pizzighini argues that the current pace of data collection is insufficient for effective management and that the responsibility for monitoring has been unfairly shifted to volunteers. The lack of updated registry data makes it difficult to estimate the necessary number of sterilizations or to distinguish resources allocated to feline management versus canine management. The councilor noted that these deficiencies impact animal welfare, veterinary care, and urban quality of life.
