Lombardy regional councilor proposes M2 metro extension to Trezzo sull’Adda
A new proposal has been presented to the Lombardy Regional Council to extend the M2 metro line beyond its previously discussed terminus in Vimercate. Regional councilor Jacopo Dozio has submitted an agenda requesting a feasibility study for a rapid surface transport system that would reach Trezzo sull’Adda, including intermediate stops in Bellusco and Busnago.
The initiative aims to serve a larger commuter base in the eastern Brianza region, providing an alternative to automobile travel for residents commuting to Milan. Additionally, the proposal suggests exploring a feasibility study to extend the M5 line to Brugherio to create a strategic interchange hub with the M2.
While the project is currently a development hypothesis rather than an approved plan, it seeks to address infrastructure needs that have been requested by local administrators for over forty years. The proposal emphasizes long-term mobility planning to reduce traffic congestion and environmental impact.
