Lombardy to deploy 300 bodycams for healthcare workers

The Lombardy Region is introducing 300 bodycams to be used in emergency rooms and high-risk hospital wards to prevent and document aggression against medical and healthcare personnel. The initiative is funded by a 400,000 euro investment allocated for the 2026-2027 biennium.

The program was established through a call for applications proposed by Romano La Russa, the regional assessor for Security and Civil Protection. Nineteen organizations, including various Territorial Socio-Health Companies (ASST) and Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalization and Healthcare (IRCCS), participated in the tender.

The devices are intended to serve as a deterrent against violence and to provide video documentation of incidents to support legal or disciplinary proceedings. The measure follows rising concerns regarding physical and verbal attacks on staff in overcrowded or high-stress medical environments.
