Northern Italy hit by severe storms, flooding, and landslides

Severe weather across Northern Italy, particularly in Lombardy, has triggered widespread flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage. Emergency services have conducted approximately one thousand interventions to manage the crisis.

In the Brescia province, the Oglio river overflowed, flooding parts of Malonno, while a landslide in the Val Rabbia destroyed the bridge at Rino di Sonico. This collapse has isolated several communities and necessitated the evacuation of dozens of residents. In the Bergamo area, approximately 250 people were evacuated from the San Simone campsite in Isola di Fondrano due to the dual threat of an imminent landslide and rising river levels.

Civil Protection has issued orange alerts for thunderstorms and hydrogeological hazards in Lombardy, Liguria, Tuscany, and Friaul-Julisch Venetien. While recent heavy rainfall has provided some relief to drought-stricken water reserves in basins like Lake Como and the Adda, the immediate impact of the storms remains critical, with hundreds of people isolated and significant damage to roads and power supplies reported.
