London and Manchester knife attacks leave two men in critical condition
A 37‑year‑old man was critically injured in a "shocking and brutal" stabbing on Weir Road in Balham, South London, on the night of 18 July. Members of the public chased the armed attacker away before Metropolitan Police provided first aid and paramedics took the victim to hospital. Police are investigating and have asked anyone with information to contact them.
In a separate incident, a 31‑year‑old man was found with stab wounds on Peter Street in Manchester city centre in the early hours of 19 July. Greater Manchester Police described it as a "targeted attack" and placed a scene around the location while the investigation continues. The victim remains in a critical but stable condition.
Both attacks have prompted increased police patrols and appeals for public assistance in the respective areas.
