London bus drivers to strike over working conditions

More than 1,500 bus drivers employed by Arriva North London, represented by the Unite union, are scheduled to undertake a series of strikes across August, September, and October. The industrial action is driven by disputes over working conditions, specifically the lack of adequate air conditioning in vehicles during periods of extreme heat. The union reports that drivers have faced health risks such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and dehydration.

The strikes will affect drivers from eight garages, including Barking, Edmonton, Enfield, Grays, Palmers Green, Stamford Hill, Tottenham, and Wood Green. Disruption is expected on various routes in North and central London, with specific services such as the 19, 29, 34, 41, 66, 67, 76, 102, 121, 141, 149, 150, 158, 175, 191, 192, 217, and 221 potentially impacted.

Transport for London (TfL) has advised passengers to plan ahead and check for delays via their website or app, noting that while local routes will be affected, the majority of the London bus network should continue to operate. The first wave of strikes is set to occur on August 14 and 15.
