London court sets date for Michał Kuczmierowski extradition decision

A London court has scheduled a decision regarding the extradition of Michał Kuczmierowski, the former head of Poland’s Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS), for November 19. During recent proceedings, legal representatives for both the Polish prosecution and Kuczmierowski focused on the state of the Polish judiciary, specifically debating the appointment of judges and the role of the Constitutional Tribunal.

The investigation by the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice examines whether RARS bypassed public procurement procedures between 2021 and 2023. Allegations include participating in an organized criminal group to achieve financial benefits by favoring specific private entities and purchasing goods, such as protective masks and power generators, at inflated prices.

Kuczmierowski has been free on bail since February 2025, subject to strict residency and reporting requirements. His defense has indicated that the case may face lengthy appeals in the High Court following the upcoming decision.
