London crime statistics reveal Newham and Enfield as high-offence areas

Metropolitan Police data reveals varying crime trends across London boroughs. In East London, Newham recorded the highest number of criminal offences in July with 3,759 reports, representing a 5.74 per cent increase from June. The most frequent offences in Newham included theft, violence against the person, and vehicle offences. Tower Hamlets followed with 3,599 reports, while Redbridge recorded 2,210. Waltham Forest was the only East London borough to see a decrease in crime compared to the previous month.

Regarding gun crime, London recorded 1,679 gun-related offences between August 2025 and July 2026. While this is a decrease from the previous year, figures remain higher than levels seen in 2022-2023. Enfield and Brent reported the highest number of gun crimes, with 110 and 108 offences respectively. Lambeth ranked third with 88 offences and recorded the highest number of lethal barrel discharges (LBDs) at 13.

In a separate recent incident in Clapham, a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal shooting on Willington Road. A 25-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and another individual was hospitalized with a gunshot wound.
