London Fashion Week designers emphasize human craftsmanship

During London Fashion Week, several designers emphasized the human element of garment production, highlighting artisanal techniques and the specific individuals behind their collections.

Designer Steve O Smith hosted a seminar at the Royal Academy of Arts, where he detailed the granular techniques used in his work, such as appliqué and beading, while crediting his small team of seamstresses and assistants. Pauline Dujancourt, a Paul Smith’s Foundation resident, showcased a gown featuring 700 hand-crocheted flowers, many of which were crafted by women in Peru.

Additionally, the brand Labrum incorporated a performance element into its presentation, featuring design team members hand-beading and sewing garments in view of guests. The collection also included hand-woven raffia pieces produced in India.
