London Fashion Week sees resurgence in global influence
London Fashion Week has concluded its Spring/Summer 2027 season, marked by a significant resurgence in international interest and buyer attendance. The British Fashion Council’s recent strategic overhaul, which included waiving show fees and unifying the menswear calendar, has contributed to a sense that London is reclaiming its status as a premier fashion capital.
The event featured a diverse range of showcases, from established brands to emerging talent. Alexander McQueen returned to the official London schedule for the first time in 25 years with a collection by creative director Seán McGirr that blended Savile Row tailoring with underground rave culture. Marks & Spencer also held its first-ever fashion show at the Design Museum to celebrate its centenary.
Emerging designers received significant attention through programs like Fashion East and NEWGEN. Notable mentions included Gui Rosa, known for her punk and ultra-feminine crochet designs, and the brand Dimitra Petsa, which featured a provocative ‘Holy Milk’ collection. Street style trends observed during the week included a heavy emphasis on denim, loafers, and eclectic layering, reflecting a move away from rigid runway-to-retail hierarchies.
