London Fields arson suspect charged after multiple park fires
Isaac Shozi, a 50-year-old man from Hackney, has been charged with arson following a series of fires in London Fields. The incidents occurred around 5 a.m. on Saturday near Lansdowne Drive.
The London Fire Brigade responded to approximately ten separate fires within the park, all of which were quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported during the incident. Police initially arrested the suspect on suspicion of arson, setting fires, and possession of a Class A drug. Shozi has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Authorities issued warnings regarding the dangers of starting fires, noting that recent hot weather has created high wildfire risks. The incident follows a government emergency wildlife alert sent to millions across the UK, warning against activities like barbecues and campfires due to parched conditions in many green spaces.
