London Film Festivals Reveal Lineups and New Programs
The 64th BFI London Film Festival took place in October 2020 with a reduced slate of films. Highlights included Steve McQueen’s debut episode of the Small Axe series, Mangrove, which dramatizes the 1970 clash between the Mangrove Nine and London police, and Chloe Zhao’s acclaimed indie Nomadland, starring Frances McDormand.
The Final Film Festival announced its inaugural programme for August 6‑9 2026, positioning itself as a multi‑venue celebration of independent cinema across London. The festival will open with Perfumania, a comedy by Charlotte Ercoli, and close with a restored world‑premiere screening of Faces of Death (1978). Additional highlights include the UK premiere of The Trainer, directed by Tony Kaye, and the feature debut Perfect by Millicent Hailes. Founders Jack Hewitt and Kit Ramsay describe the event as filling a gap in London’s cinema culture.
