London landlord fined over £6,200 for operating unlicensed rental properties

Brent Council prosecuted landlord Mr McLoughlin after inspections found two properties in Stonebridge and Wembley being rented without the required licences. The Stonebridge house was operating as a House in Multiple Occupation with six separate households and lacked an HMO licence, resulting in a £3,556 penalty. A second property on Rosemead Avenue required a selective licence but was let out unlicensed, leading to a £2,674 fine. The total penalty ordered by the court was £6,230.

Councillor Robert Johnson, Cabinet Member for Housing, Homelessness and Renters, said the prosecution “sends a strong message – we will not tolerate landlords operating without licences and putting profit over the safety of tenants.” The council emphasized its commitment to enforce licensing standards and protect tenants.
