London Marathon eyes two-day format with £400m economic impact

The London Marathon is weighing a two-day format for a one-off event next year, described by organisers as an 'incredible celebration' that could raise more than £130m for charity and deliver about £400m in social and economic benefits. The event could allow around 100,000 participants, nearly double the usual Sunday turnout, with advanced talks under way as reported plans are explored. The event director cautioned that the sport’s spirit must be preserved, stating, "You can lose the love, and we have to be mindful of that." The Guardian had earlier revealed the discussions about the format.
