Ontario advances lighthouse restoration and Gordie Howe bridge walkway

The historic Port Burwell lighthouse on Lake Erie, built in 1840, has been transferred to a local historical society. The society will receive about $250,000 from Bayham Township and will seek additional grants to restore the nearly 200‑year‑old landmark.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge, the new crossing between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, will open a multi‑use pedestrian and cycling path on August 5. Guidance is provided for walkers and cyclists using the bridge’s pathway.

Both projects represent significant infrastructure and heritage initiatives in Ontario, with the lighthouse focusing on cultural preservation and the bridge enhancing cross‑border active‑transport connectivity.
