London power outage affects 5,000 customers and disrupts transport

A major power outage struck London on Monday, October 5, affecting approximately 5,000 homes and businesses across 32 to 33 postcode areas. UK Power Networks (UKPN) reported that the disruption was caused by a fault in an underground electricity cable, impacting regions including North London, East London, and the City.

The outage caused significant chaos for the city's transportation network. At Liverpool Street Station, departure information screens went dark, forcing passengers to manually check schedules. The Great Northern rail service also reported issues, noting that some platforms were left without lighting, including at Essex Road Station.

UKPN worked to reroute power to restore service, successfully returning electricity to nearly 4,900 customers by midday. Full restoration across all affected areas was expected by the early afternoon.
