Pro-Palestinian protesters march in Europe and Turkey
Thousands of protesters across major European and Turkish cities held demonstrations to demand an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza, marking three years since the October 7, 2023, attacks. In London, marchers called for the UK government to impose full sanctions on Israel and halt arms exports. The Metropolitan Police reported several arrests, including individuals allegedly supporting the proscribed group Palestine Action, and enforced a zero-tolerance policy regarding face coverings to prevent identity concealment.
In Berlin and Dublin, large crowds gathered to voice solidarity with Palestinians and criticize ongoing military strikes. Demonstrators in Berlin specifically targeted German arms exports to Israel. In Turkey, cities including Istanbul, Van, Malatya, and Bursa saw significant marches organized by various solidarity platforms, with participants calling for international action against the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, the military offensive has resulted in more than 74,200 deaths. While a ceasefire was negotiated a year ago, reports indicate that strikes continue on a near-daily basis, with approximately 1,450 Palestinians killed since the agreement began.
