London Records history featured in new music podcast

A new five-episode podcast titled ‘Hit That Perfect Beat: The London Records Story’ explores the history of the influential UK music label. Hosted by former Smash Hits writer Siân Pattenden, the series examines how the label operated with a maverick spirit despite being owned by PolyGram.

London Records was a significant hit machine during the 1980s and 1990s, managing diverse acts such as Bronski Beat, East 17, All Saints, Shakespears Sister, Bananarama, and Fine Young Cannibals. The podcast highlights the work of key executives including Roger Ames, Tracy Bennet, Colin Bell, and Pete Tong.

The series also touches on the cultural impact of the label's artists, such as Bronski Beat’s debut single ‘Smalltown Boy,’ which embraced LGBTQ+ themes through its music video.
