London rolls out new ambulance dispatch system

London is implementing the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) for ambulance calls. The MPDS helps dispatchers assess the urgency of patients and decide which resources to send, aiming to maintain current response times while asking callers more detailed questions. The rollout follows a province‑wide introduction across Ontario and is intended to improve emergency medical services for the city’s residents.

Officials say the change will not slow ambulance arrivals and is part of an effort to standardize call handling across the region.
