London transport network adds two new step-free stations

Transport for London (TfL) has expanded accessibility within the London transport network by introducing step-free routes at two additional stations: Surrey Quays and Northolt.

At Surrey Quays station, a new entrance provides London Overground customers with fully accessible entry to the Windrush line for the first time. The upgrades include two new lifts providing step-free access to both platforms, a new footbridge, and a staircase designed to increase capacity and alleviate pressure on existing narrow staircases.

Northolt Tube station, located on the West Ruislip branch of the Central line, has also become step-free. The improvements include a new lift and a footbridge connecting the ticket office to the platform. With these additions, Northolt becomes the 95th station on the Tube network to offer step-free access. Manual boarding ramps are also available to facilitate street-to-train accessibility.

These developments are part of the Mayor of London and TfL’s ‘Equity in Motion’ plan to improve network accessibility for wheelchair users, elderly residents, and people with pushchairs or luggage.
