London's 2026 tennis calendar features Wimbledon favorites and Queen's Club weather woes
The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will take place from 29 June to 12 July at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in London. Italian Jannik Sinner enters as the leading men's favorite after defending his title, with seven‑time champion Novak Djokovic also expected to contend. Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn because of a right‑wrist injury, reshaping the draw. On the women's side, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka is the top contender, while Iga Świątek and other leading players also feature.
Ahead of Wimbledon, the WTA 500 event at the Queen's Club runs 8–14 June on outdoor grass. The tournament includes 28 singles entrants and 16 doubles teams, with British wild‑cards Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, Francesca Jones and Mika Stojsavljevic. Inclement weather forced a cancellation of Thursday’s matches, highlighting the challenges of outdoor grass play.
Both events showcase the depth of the current tennis season, with notable absences and weather disruptions influencing player opportunities and tournament outcomes.
