London's Southbank Arts Venues Mark Milestones with Festivals and Apprenticeship Programs

The Southbank Centre will host the London Literature Festival curated by pop star Dua Lipa from 21 October to 1 November. The programme includes conversations with writer Zadie Smith, poet‑musician Mustafa, and rock legend Patti Smith, as well as events featuring Nobel laureate Nadia Murad and a translated fiction showcase.

The National Theatre is celebrating 50 years in its iconic South Bank building with a free public installation called “Stories Start Here: 50 Stories for 50 Years,” slated for launch in October 2026 on Queen’s Walk. The exhibit will share personal reflections from artists such as Hugh Jackman, David Oy elowo and historic figures like Laurence Olivier. Alongside the installation, the theatre is introducing the Sir Denys Lasdun Mechanical & Electrical Apprenticeship to train staff in building‑maintenance skills.

Both initiatives aim to highlight the cultural heritage of London’s Southbank and engage new audiences through live events and educational programmes.
