Londrina municipal guard shooting kills 15‑year‑old Murilo Dias

On Friday night in Londrina, Paraná, municipal guards pursued a pickup driven by Volmir Dias after the driver fired a warning shot at a pizzeria. The chase ended near the Moringão Sports Gym where the guards engaged the vehicle. During the approach, 15‑year‑old Murilo Dias, seated in the passenger seat, was shot and killed. The guard corps says Murilo resisted orders to exit the vehicle and reached for a firearm at his waist, prompting the use of lethal force.

Murilo’s parents dispute that account. Mother Larissa Esthefani da Silva says her son suffered six epileptic seizures that day and was unconscious, unable to react or handle a weapon. Father Volmir Dias also claims his son was unarmed. The family’s lawyer, Aline Capocci, has demanded the release of the guards’ body‑camera footage. Following the incident, the two guards involved were suspended by commander Ricardo Eguedis, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked for the video evidence. Volmir was arrested for firearm discharge, drunk driving and disobedience, but later received provisional release with an electronic ankle monitor.
