Londrina to host female military service volunteers from 2027

The Tiro de Guerra of Londrina (TG 05-003) will begin accepting female volunteers for military service starting in 2027. Mayor Tiago Amaral announced the initiative during the 80th-anniversary celebrations of the unit.

Londrina is among the first five cities in Brazil to host female classes in Tiros de Guerra. This move follows a 2024 decree signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, which authorized voluntary female enlistment in the Brazilian Armed Forces.

Unlike the mandatory enlistment for men, female service is optional. Women who turn 18 starting in 2025 are eligible to enlist voluntarily between January and June. Once incorporated, volunteers must fulfill the same duties as defined by the Military Service Law, with an initial term of 12 months that can be extended annually up to a maximum of eight years.
