Lonely Planet highlights top European autumn hiking routes

Lonely Planet has identified three premier hiking itineraries in Europe to enjoy during the autumn season, spanning from mid-September to mid-December.

The selected routes include the Premuzic Trail in Croatia, located within the Velebit National Park. This 57-kilometer trek through the Velebit mountains is noted for its challenging, rocky terrain.

In the United Kingdom, the Coast to Coast Walk in England offers a 308-kilometer journey from St. Bees on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood's Bay on the eastern coast, typically requiring two to three weeks to complete.

The third recommendation is a section of the Via Francigena pilgrimage route. Specifically, the guide highlights the segment traversing the Swiss Alps and northern Italy.
