Long Bien house features inward-facing design toward river garden

A 320m² residential house in Long Bien, Hanoi, has been designed with an inward-facing orientation to prioritize tranquility amidst increasing urbanization. Located in a village near the junction of the Duong River, the home turns away from the street to focus on a rear garden and riverside view.

The architectural layout places primary living spaces and bedrooms facing the back of the property, utilizing a veranda as a transitional space toward the river. Service areas, such as the kitchen and bathrooms, are positioned toward the front to create a technical axis, while stairs and corridors serve as central connectors.

The design emphasizes natural light through large openings, verandas, and high-placed windows, allowing for varying light intensities throughout the day and seasons. The structure features simplified geometric forms and an interconnected living and kitchen area to maintain spatial continuity.
