Long Island school receives ammunition instead of art supplies

A teacher at Eastport-South Manor Jr.-Sr. High School in Manorville, New York, discovered a box of ammunition while unpacking an order of art supplies intended for the start of the academic year.

District superintendent Joseph Steimel stated that the incident was a “severe packaging and shipping error made by the external vendor or distributor.” He assured parents that no students or staff were in danger. Suffolk County police have since taken possession of the bullets.

Blick Art Materials, the retailer from which the school ordered supplies, reported that an unopened box of ammunition shipped from Louisiana to a sporting goods store in New York was mistakenly intermingled with their shipment. The company clarified that the ammunition supplier is not one of its vendors and that Blick does not sell or package ammunition.
