Long Lellang helicopter crash preliminary report to be presented to Cabinet

The preliminary investigation report regarding the medical air service helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Sarawak, is scheduled to be presented to the Malaysian Cabinet on October 16, 2026. The accident, which occurred on September 8, resulted in five fatalities, including the pilot and four Ministry of Health personnel.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) found the pilot held a valid license, flight qualifications, and medical certificate. Additionally, the helicopter possessed a valid Certificate of Registration and Certificate of Airworthiness, and was confirmed airworthy at the time of departure.

An audit of the helicopter owner, Layang-Layang Aerospace, revealed three findings and three observations. These included issues with workforce planning, unclear maintenance inspection records, and insufficient emergency continuity documentation. One finding regarding maintenance workforce calculations remains under final verification. A final investigation report is expected within one year of the accident.
