Long March legacy honored through historical sites and research
China is observing the 90th anniversary of the Long March victory, highlighting the historical significance of the revolutionary journey through various commemorative sites and personal accounts of preservation.
Key locations along the route, such as Yudu in Jiangxi, the Xiang River in Guangxi, and Zunyi in Guizhou, serve as landmarks for the ‘Long March spirit.’ These sites, often visited by President Xi Jinping, emphasize the ideological foundations and the relationship between the Red Army and local populations during the 1934–1936 campaign.
In Shiqian County, Guizhou, local historian Yang Youzhu spent over twenty years researching and documenting the lost history of the Red Army's 52nd Regiment. His work successfully reconstructed the account of the Kunniu Mountain battle, where soldiers chose to leap from cliffs rather than be captured. His efforts led to the publication of historical records and the establishment of a memorial to honor the fallen soldiers.
