Long Night of Democracy to host panel on digital debate culture

The Long Night of Democracy event, organized by the Evangelisches Bildungswerk and Oberpfalz-Medien, will feature a panel discussion titled ‘Debate Culture or Shitstorm? Democracy in Digital Everyday Life.’ Scheduled for October 2 at the Oberpfalz-Medien publishing building, the discussion aims to explore how the internet alters human interaction and why political disputes escalate so rapidly online.

The panel will address themes of freedom of expression, responsibility, and respectful disagreement. Participants include experts from journalism, media psychology, sociology, and civil society, such as Philipp Reich, head of the T1 Youth Media Center, and Pastor Christiane Weber, to provide diverse perspectives on digital media competence and the prevention of personal attacks in online discourse.
