Long-term BMI exposure and lifestyle factors linked to heart disease risk

New research and medical experts are highlighting the critical link between long-term lifestyle factors and cardiovascular health. An analysis by experts at Mass General Brigham in the US, published in ‘PLOS One’, examined data from over 136,000 participants. The study suggests that the duration of exposure to an elevated Body Mass Index (BMI) is a more significant predictor of heart disease risk than a single BMI measurement at one point in time.

In Poland, medical professionals are emphasizing the role of preventable factors in heart attacks. Professor Piotr Jankowski, head of the Clinic of Internal Diseases and Gerontocardiology at the W. Orłow Hospital in Warsaw, noted that approximately 90 percent of heart attack cases are linked to controllable factors such as hypertension, poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking, and excessive weight. This information was shared as part of the ‘Prevention — Pass It On’ initiative, a public health campaign aimed at encouraging preventative screenings and healthy lifestyle choices.
