Long-term leasing drives French professional fleet energy transition

Long-term leasing (LLD) has emerged as a primary driver for the energy transition of professional vehicle fleets in France. As companies seek to green their fleets without risking their own balance sheets, they are increasingly outsourcing vehicle ownership to leasing specialists.

In France, large leasers such as Ayvens, Arval, and Alphabet dominate a sector that accounts for over 60% of B2B registrations, representing more than 2 million vehicles. While direct corporate registrations for passenger cars recently saw a 5.5% decrease, LLD registrations surged by 21%.

Leasing serves as a financial shield against market uncertainties by absorbing the risk of vehicle obsolescence. This model allows both public and private entities to meet legal environmental constraints and manage the volatile residual values of electric vehicles through full-service contracts, avoiding the need to immobilize significant cash reserves.
