Italy: Trends in food transparency, longevity, and cultural welfare

Recent studies and initiatives in Italy highlight shifting consumer behaviors and societal focuses on health and longevity. A survey by Federconsumatori and Openpolis reveals that 96.4% of Italian consumers demand mandatory labeling of food origins, though 53.3% struggle to understand current labeling language, particularly regarding health and dietary needs.

In the realm of longevity, various projects are addressing the biological and social aspects of aging. A study published in Nature Communications suggests that diverse dietary models, including Mediterranean and DASH diets, can slow biological aging. Meanwhile, Credem has launched “Longevity Talk,” a vodcast series exploring the intersection of health, prevention, and financial planning. In the Alburni region, six municipalities have launched “Longevìa,” a project to promote local tourism and culture through the lens of quality of life.

Cultural and social welfare initiatives are also expanding. In Bolzano, the Academy of Care is exploring the link between cultural participation and health. In Salerno, proposals aim to decentralize the “Luci d’Artista” festival to benefit more neighborhoods, while in Sardinia, the “Affustigare” project uses nature and activities like yoga to combat social isolation in mountain communities.
