Longevity medicine shifts focus toward proactive health preservation

The field of longevity medicine is transitioning from a reactive model of treating symptoms to a proactive strategy aimed at preserving health and functional autonomy. Rather than waiting for diseases to manifest, this approach seeks to identify early risk factors such as insulin resistance, hypertension, and loss of muscle mass.

Experts emphasize that the goal is not to achieve eternal youth or treat aging as a disease, but to extend the number of healthy years lived. Key indicators for assessment include metabolic health, cardiorespiratory capacity, sleep quality, nutrition, and muscle strength. While some commercial products claim to reverse aging, scientific consensus highlights lifestyle factors—such as balanced nutrition, regular physical activity (specifically strength and balance training), and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol—as the most proven methods for healthy aging.

This shift is increasingly critical due to global demographic changes. In regions like Latin America, the aging population is placing growing pressure on healthcare systems, driving the development of new diagnostic tools, including AI-based systems to assess frailty risks in seniors.
