Longevity researchers address anti-ageing myths and peptide science

Longevity experts are working to distinguish scientific breakthroughs from popular misinformation regarding life extension. Researchers emphasize that the primary goal of longevity science is to extend “health span” rather than just life span, aiming to increase the period of time individuals remain healthy and functional.

Discussions in the field include the potential of peptides, such as humanin, to protect the brain against Alzheimer’s disease, accelerate tissue healing, and improve muscle or gut health. However, experts caution that many anti-ageing claims circulating on social media lack scientific grounding and can be dangerous.

Data indicates a trend in the United States where, despite slight increases in life expectancy, healthy life expectancy has declined. While medical advancements have improved survival rates for diseases like cancer, other conditions such as dementia have become more prevalent, leading to an increase in the period of ill health at the end of life.
